One of the most beneficial treatments we offer is a chiropractic adjustment. This is a therapeutic treatment where a chiropractor manipulates the joints in your body. Chiropractic is also sometimes referred to as joint or spinal manipulation. When done correctly, it reduces pain by realigning your body so it can function properly. Adjustments help with neck pain, muscle pain, headaches, lower back pain, and more. It can even be used on areas like your shoulders, hips, pelvis, elbows, wrists, ankles, and jaw.
Benefits of a Chiropractor
Our Chiropractors focus on adjusting your body to alleviate pain and symptoms that directly affect your musculoskeletal system. This can be used for a variety of issues ranging from acute pain to chronic pain. This is a favorable alternative to medications because it allows for faster healing instead of numbing the real issue. Adjustments are the most common alternative treatment option to medications.
There are several benefits of a chiropractic adjustment including:
- Minimizing headaches and chronic migraines
- Allows you to improve your posture and perform better
- Reduces acute and chronic pain
- Increases the range of motion in your spine and joints
- Reduces symptoms you may be experiencing when in motion or at rest
- Effectively treating your injuries during your recovery period
- Gives you faster results after an injury
- Allows you to heal without depending on medications
- Adjustments are not painful
This treatment is an effective option for people of all ages. Although more adults tend to have these adjustments done, it is safe for children and younger teens as well. We always screen each of our athletes because we still want to make sure an adjustment is the best form of care.
What Happens When you Visit Our Chiropractors?
Before we perform the treatment, we take the time to go over your medical history and do a physical exam around the area that is causing you pain. Depending on what we find, our chiropractors may also have imaging testing done to get a better understanding about your musculoskeletal system. Imaging tests may include an X-ray, CT scan, or MRI scan. If you have had any imaging testing prior to your visit, we will also review it with you during your appointment.
Once we have determined that an adjustment will benefit you, we go over what we will be adjusting and how. You will lie down on a chiropractic table that is designed specifically for adjusting your body. Using our hands, we apply a quick and controlled amount of pressure to specific joints in your body. We may also stretch your joints manually beyond the typical range of motion. This is what allows your vertebrae to realign and decrease your pain.
Experiencing popping or cracking noises are completely normal. This sound occurs when the adjustment allows gasses to release from your joints. An adjustment is not a painful procedure and the most common side effect is feeling slight soreness afterward. The sound an adjustment makes is the most surprising part of the experience, aside from that, there is no pain. Any soreness you experience after will subside within a day. After your adjustment, we take the time to go over things we would like you to do at home to get the most out of your therapy. This includes: specific exercises and stretches, posture exercises, icing and heating regimens, tools to manage stress, and ways to relax your muscles.
A chiropractic adjustment has very little recovery time. Most people feel a sense of immediate relief following an adjustment. We use this therapy to help restore your health and heal your body. As an athlete, you put high demands on your body. Having an adjustment done will help you continue to move and function at a high level. You do not have to be injured to have an adjustment. It can be used as a preventative treatment.
